ABOUT

WHAT IS THIS?

The Artefact Archive is an independent, non-commercial, fan-operated educational resource dedicated to documenting the works of the artist known as Banksy. It exists to provide factual, analytical documentation of works that are often ephemeral — painted on walls, subject to removal, or destroyed — and to contextualise them within the history of street art, political protest, and contemporary culture.

WHAT WE ARE NOT

We are not affiliated with Banksy. We are not affiliated with Pest Control Office Limited, the artist's authentication service. We do not represent, speak on behalf of, or have any relationship with the artist or any of their representatives. Nothing on this site should be taken as an official statement about the artist's work, intentions, or identity.

EDITORIAL APPROACH

Entries are researched from publicly available sources including published journalism, academic writing on street art, and documented exhibition records. Where possible, we note uncertainty and avoid speculation. We do not reproduce copyrighted works of art directly — all imagery is sourced from publicly available documentary photographs under fair use and fair dealing provisions for educational commentary purposes.

WHY BANKSY?

Banksy is the most recognisable street artist in the world — and also one of the most systematically misunderstood. The tabloid focus on price, identity, and spectacle often obscures the genuine political intelligence of the work. This archive attempts to foreground the work itself: its placement, its visual argument, and its cultural context.

THE AI CURATOR

The archive includes an AI-powered curatorial guide that can answer questions about individual works, themes, and Banksy's broader practice. This feature uses publicly available information about the artist's documented output. It will not speculate about the artist's identity.

CONTACT

This is a volunteer project. If you have a documented correction, addition, or query, the best route is via the support page. We cannot authenticate works or provide information about the artist's whereabouts or identity.
